Got questions about the PIP assessment? You’re not alone. Below we’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions to help you feel more prepared and confident.
📞 Will I definitely have an assessment?
Most people will have an assessment — either in person, by phone, or video. In rare cases, if there’s enough evidence already, the DWP may make a decision without one.
🧍 Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. You can bring a friend, family member, carer, or support worker. They can speak for you or just be there for reassurance. If it’s by phone or video, they can sit with you or join the call.
📄 Will the assessor have seen my form?
Yes — the assessor will have a copy of your PIP2 form and any supporting evidence you sent. They will ask follow-up questions based on what you wrote.
📅 What happens after the assessment?
The assessor writes a report and sends it to the DWP. The DWP then makes a decision. You’ll receive a letter with your points score and decision, usually within a few weeks.
📋 What if I forget to mention something?
You can send extra evidence or notes to the DWP after the assessment, especially if you remember something important or think you left something out.
📢 What if I disagree with the decision?
You can ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration and appeal if needed. Many decisions are overturned at this stage, especially with new evidence.
